Description

Following his success with Moody Yachts, Newbridge appointed Bill Dixon to design this family cruiser. On its launch the Pioneer was marketed as a small 6 berth yacht. A feature of the Pioneer is the polygonal saloon table that lifts up on the mast prop. This allows for the table to be lowered to form a bed base, or raised to provide an open area. On Kestrel I use the raised table to support a solar panel under a light hatch when not at sea. The saloon is open plan with a converted double berth in the main area, and parcel shelf double in the “fore cabin”. There is a double quarter berth to port which has a curtain for privacy. To starboard is a heads. Kestrel currently has a cassette wc for in-shore sailing but she comes with a sea toilet which can easily be fitted for off-shore sailing (all of the plumbing for the sea toilet is in place but needs linking up).
The galley contains a domestic cooker/ hob and grill and a top-loading cool box. There is a flexible water tank under the fore cabin bed deck.
The cockpit has tiller steering, 4 winches, cushions, two deep lockers to starboard, a shallow rope locker to port, and a stern locker which houses the gas bottle and a kedge anchor.
The engine is a Volvo Penta 2002 and it has two brand new batteries.
On deck there is a spray hood, lazy jacks, boarding ladder, depth sounder and compass. There is also an auto helm which needs calibrating.
The main sail is battened with three reefing slabs. The foresail is roller furling and there is also a separate cruising chute and running pole.
Safety gear includes jack lines, horseshoe lifebouy with light, rescue line, throw bag, hand held vhf radio and navigation lights 20lb CQR anchor. There is a manual bilge pump and a remote electric bilge pump.
The standing rigging was replaced in 2024 and a new cutlass bearing fitted in 2023 (less than 50 engine hours since fitting)
Kestrel has a bilge keel and draws less than 1 metre.
Kestrel comes complete with all of its galley equipment, fire extinguisher, 1st aid kit and various electrical items.
